The sample internship cover letter below features Adrian Johnson, a second year law student. He applies for a summer law internship with a medium sized law firm and writes a letter using three paragraphs. In this example, he starts the letter by explaining why he wants to apply for the internship. In the second paragraph, he touches on his legal work experience and a number of other relevant skills he has acquired. In the third paragraph, this candidate reaffirms his suitability for the internship and ends the letter in a professional manner.
You should adopt this approach when writing internship letters for engineering, marketing, PR, finance, fashion, investment banking, accounting and all other disciplines. In every case, the employer wants to know what you can do for them. Using three or four paragraphs, you need to explain why you are applying and how the internship will benefit you; along with the skills and qualities you can bring to the employer.
