The technician cover letter sample below is written in four paragraphs. Good letters are typically written in 3-4 paragraphs, or maximum of five so aim to keep the length of your letter to 3-5 paragraphs. This applies to all technician disciplines including engineering, research, computer, laboratory, medical, accounting and dental technician job applications.

Our sample technician cover letter starts with the applicant, Lynda McFarlane, confidently stating her suitability for the position. Notice how she also gives the reasons why she is an ideal candidate for the position of Medical Laboratory Manager.

In the middle section of the letter, Lynda McFarlane explains her current and previous job remits and demonstrates her use of relevant skills as a technician in these roles. When writing your own cover letters, use the middle section to demonstrate use of skills that are relevant to the prescribed job you are seeking.

The letter ends with the applicant re-iterating the reasons why she is suitable for the post of Medical Laboratory Manager. In composing your own letters, try to incorporate these rules. You can use the sample letter as a template to help you compose and structure your own letters.

Dear Mr Lopez,

Re: (Enter Position / Ref here)

I am writing to express my interest in the advertised position of Medical Laboratory Manager which I believe is an excellent opportunity that will enable me to capitalise on solid professional experience whilst allowing me to progress in my career. The position seems an ideal prospect in view of my education, experience and career interests.

As you can see from my CV, I am well qualified and have gained over ten years experience in laboratory, medical and biomedical operations / management. My most recent appointment was as Laboratory Manager at XYZ Hospital where I directed operations in the absence of the Manager. I oversaw laboratory procedures and staff training; handling and resolving laboratory issues collaboratively. I also ensured health and safety regulations were adhered, managed inventory stocks and supported / initiated various projects including antibiotic trials and vaccine trials.

Prior to this I was Senior Laboratory Technician at ABCD College where I managed all aspects of operations. In this role, I prepared experiments, supported teaching staff, provided training and managed inventory stocks, ensuring adequate maintenance of equipment and adherence to health and safety. This role was preceded by a post as Senior Medical Technician at the PQRS Hospital where I managed smooth running of a busy laboratory, overseeing operations and training of junior staff. My education and professional work experience have provided me the opportunity to develop my research and analytical skills to a high degree, increasing my ability to gather and synthesise information to solve complex scientific and operational / management problems swiftly and independently. My professional experience has also honed my organisational skills, increasing my communications, interpersonal and supervisory skills.

I believe I am a suitable for the Medical Laboratory Manager position because of my experience, expertise and career aspirations. My education, professional experience and ability to manage teams would be hugely valuable to your organization in a number of areas. Meanwhile, I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Yours sincerely,

Lynda McFarlane
