Asbestos Type 2 Survey

An asbestos type 2 survey involves the same procedure and methodology used for the type 1 survey except that in this case, the surveyors collect samples of asbestos containing materials (ACM) for analysis in approved asbestos testing laboratories to determine the presence or absence of asbestos. The survey is also used to ascertain the condition of asbestos containing materials in the building.

The asbestos type 2 survey is used to formulate an asbestos register, giving duty holders a detailed report on all accessible asbestos containing materials in non-domestic buildings, helping them to implement and maintain an effective asbestos management plan as stipulated in Regulation 4 of CAR 2006.

The survey offers a flexible approach enabling surveyors to undertake asbestos sample and testing procedures at the time of the survey. Alternatively, as part of bigger and more elaborate surveys, asbestos surveyors may conduct sampling following completion of a Type 1 survey.
